EthicalCommunity.com is a marketplace where you can not only buy ethical products directly from the sellers that make them, but you can get to know each seller and learn about the story behind each product we sell.
Since the site launched in October 2010 it has attracted hundreds of sellers across the world, and our marketplace has thousands of unique products ranging from Fairtrade coffee, to handmade natural soap, to up-cycled tshirts.
The website also simplifies the often complicated  process of shopping ethically by explaining what each products ethical credentials and certificates mean. Shoppers can also learn more about each seller by interact with sellers reading interviews and interacting with them via the sites own social network, where they can learn more about the story and people behind the products they buy.
Our goal as a company is not only to give (often small one man band) sellers a platform to sell products but also to give consumers all the tools and information they need to demystify ethical shopping, and to create open debates about key issues that will help shape our planet.

Ethicalcommunity.com is a fast growing eco-friendly and natural online marketplace run by entrepreneurial co-founders Jason Dainter and Liam Patterson. Aside from being able to find great products that do good, one of our core goals is to use technology to create a very unique and personalised shopping experience like no other, allowing customers and sellers to engage with the story and person behind each product. Our business, based in the 'silicon roundabout' in London's Old Street area has recently been seed funded by a fantastic syndicate of early stage investors, including AlertMe.com CEO and ASOS.com board member Mary Turner, founding partner at Alchemy Partners, Robert Barnes, venture investor Kelvin Au, and CEO of Orange Advertising Networks, Giuliano Stiglitz.

Our start-up has been making fast growth securing over 1,000 sellers and more than 8,000 products in our marketplace and generating a lot of press in the industry.

We need entrepreneurs, not employees.

This is a unique position for a unique individual.

We are currently recruiting a developer as our first hire who will be responsible for implementing a full rebuild of our existing technology. We are looking for entrepreneurs not employees and as a result will be delegating a large amount of control to our first hire. Responsibilities will include attending board meetings and helping input towards higher level strategic decisions as well as independently being able to keep on top of and choose the best technologies for our business to scale. You will ultimately be responsible for helping recruit, manage and inspire other developers as we continue to scale our team.

The type of person we are looking for should have a serious passion to work in a start-up environment and should be looking for a long term position to become a core part of our early team as we grow. They should be excited about the opportunity to grow a start-up from seed stage, through further rounds and beyond.

If you live, breathe and dream about code, want to work in a business with no boundaries or red tape and want to have the autonomy you need to really make an impact - then we want to hear from you!

The skills we are hunting.

  • Serious early stage equity options within the company, which has plans to go through further funding rounds in approximately 1 years time and already has a very competative valuation.
  • A competitive salary with serious room for growth in the short term as the business scales
  • A huge amount of control over the technical aspects of the business and a position that values you as part of the core early team.
  • Fun on an incredible journey! start-ups are a very special type of business and frankly are not everyone's cup of organic tea. There will be lots of highs and undoubtedly some lows, but through the experience you will have a lot of fun being part of a talented entrepreneurial team who has a positive 'can do' culture. We believe playing hard is as important as working hard and some of the perks that come with being part of our team include relaxed holiday policies, beer 'o clock days, company trips to eco resorts, old school gaming nights (BFGs at the ready!). You will contribute to and help shape our culture from an early stage as our team expands.
  • Days off to be creative. We offer regularly "100% time" days where we offer staff a day to work from home on any project you like. We understand that everyone in a start-up needs room to be creative (and often when the best decisions happen) and if you join us you'll be working for a company that full embraces that culture.
