Guy Jeremiah is the entrepreneur behind “Aquatina”, a company who make eco-friendly collapsible water bottles. Guy has been brought to the public limelight after a recent appearance on the hit TV show "Dragons Den" where he pitched his concept for Aquatina whilst looking for investment in his company.

Sadly Guy left the den empty handed (not before receiving quite a grilling from some of the UKs most belligerent business leaders!), however we caught up with him in this podcast find out how things were going.

EthicalCommuity.com currently sells the aquatina in our marketplace and were attracted to the product initially because of the green credentials it boasts.

85 bottles of regular plastic bottles thrown away every year from the average UK consumer. That’s 150 billion bottles in total per year, or put another way, that’s enough bottles to circulate the earths surface 1000 times! Madness!

Clearly something needs to be done about all this waste, and guy feels that the Aquatina solves this problem, but why?

Well firstly naturally carrying around a water bottle is a huge step towards not having to buy so much water when out and about, but the Aquatina takes this a step further with its clever patented collapsible design. It means when empty, it can be neatly folded away and put in a bag (or even a pocket) and taken home for refilling. This, Guy tells us, takes out a lot of the hassle normally associated with carrying around a bottle.

Clever huh? Well the dragons certainly didn’t seem to think so, but then since the den Guy has seen his product sell out in some major UK retail outlets and sales seem to be booming for his Aquatina. Maybe the world is more ethically switched on that the dragons has predicted!

Further to providing a way of carrying around water conveniently, the Aquatina goes a step further and has a "find a fountain" service on their website which provides information on where to find free water sources in the UK. Guy aims to expand this service by making it community driven so that members of the public can upload information on the nearest fountain.

So what about the bottle itself, what is it made from?... Food safe materials which are free of BPA and PET chemicals. There are many ongoing debates about some disposable water bottles containing such chemicals, and although (as Guy pointed out) the evidence either way is not conclusive, we certainly think there are worse ideas than to avoid those chemicals altogether!

Ultimately the public will make sure mind up whether Aquatina will continue to be a success or not, but perhaps this could end up being "the one that got away" for the dragons that were so quick to pull apart the product!
